As President of the European Association for Cranio-Maxillo-Facial Surgery (EACMFS), and in strong partnership with AIME Congress, I am honoured to address the wider community of aesthetic and reconstructive surgeons.
Surgery is evolving and so does our role in the treatment of our patients. We provide holistic treatment based on our Hippocratic foundations whilst, at the same time, our technical abilities continue to improve with better knowledge of anatomy and rapid expansion of AI powered techniques.
Surgical Innovation – What’s New?
This session explores how we can evolve surgical practice by combining time-honoured techniques with the most advanced tools and systems. Core anatomical knowledge remains essential, while minimally invasive approaches, digital integration, and biological enhancement are reshaping outcomes.
Recent Innovations and Refinements:
1. Digital Surgical Planning
Integration of 3D simulation, AI-based modelling, and patient-specific surgical guides for unmatched precision.
2. Regenerative Adjuncts in Surgery
The use of biologic materials (PRP, stem cells, bio-scaffolds) to optimise healing and enhance both form and function.
3. Clinical Impact
These advancements are improving not just aesthetic outcomes, but also functional restoration, recovery times, and long-term tissue stability.
Clinical Cases & Practical Applications
Clinical cases of orthognathic realignment based on AI planning as well as mid face regeneration using structural fat transfer will be presented.
Global Trends & Who’s Leading the Way?
South Korea leads in robotics and data-driven facial contouring
India and Brazil are innovating in hybrid surgical-regenerative approaches
France and Germany refine elegant, low-impact facial harmonisation
EACMFS members across Europe are pioneering cross-specialty collaboration between craniofacial, aesthetic, and regenerative fields
How This Changes Your Practice?
Area | Traditional Approach | Advanced Technique |
Planning | 2D imaging, manual sketch | AI-driven 3D simulation & printed guides |
Execution | Open, high-trauma access | Robotic-assisted or endoscopic approaches |
Outcome | Variable symmetry | Predictable, refined anatomical harmony |
Recovery | Prolonged swelling/downtime | Faster healing with regenerative support |
Clinical Benefits for Practitioners
✔ Expand your skillset with future-ready tools
✔ Improve precision and reduce surgical unpredictability
✔ Serve complex aesthetic and reconstructive needs in one platform
✔ Connect with global leaders shaping tomorrow’s standards
I wish all AIME participants a very successful and fruitful Congress in Paris and look forward to welcoming you to the 28th EACMFS Congress Athens, Greece 15–18 September 2026. The official theme of the Congress is “From Foundation to Innovation: Harnessing Our Surgical Future” covering the interconnected facets of our specialty from aesthetics to complex head and neck reconstruction. The Congress will be immersed in the classical background of Athens with a spectacular scientific and social programme.
Warm regards,Nick Kalavrezos MD FRCS President, European Association for Cranio-Maxillo-Facial Surgery (EACMFS)
